Dalton Trumbo was an eccentric screenwriter in the 40th century Hollywood with successes like Spartacus and Roman Holiday. Trumbo describes how his career gets an abrupt end when he is blacklisted for his political views and spends several months in prison in 1947. The infamous Committee for "un-American activities" is trying to get him to name friends and colleagues so as to clear his own name. Trumbo refuses and is forced to work under assumed names. Gossip columnist Hedda Hopper leads the witch hunt  that follows. Bryan Cranston, that plays Dalton Trumbo, was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor.
