Caravaggio

Over 12 93 minutes 1986 6.5

In this portrait by Derek Jarman of one of the greatest artists of the Renaissance, Michelangelo Caravaggio, we meet the artist on his deathbed. He is cared for by his mute friend Jerusaleme and looks back on his life, his work, and the people he loved, deceived and was deceived by. He had an uncompromising attitude towards his work and life, something that upsetted both the art establishment and his family. Carvaggio was awarded a Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival in 1986. “The artistic directing is carefully developed and sparse, and the portrayal is exquisite”, writes Moira Sullivan in Movie Magazine.
