Michael Hanekes subtle drama Amour has been awarded both an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film and the Palm d’Or in Cannes. Georges and Anne are a couple in their eighties. They have both been teachers in classical music and their daughter, who lives abroad, is schooled musician. They live a quite life, but when Anne suffers a stroke, their lives are turned upside down. The strong love connection between George and Anne are put to test when George nurses her at their home and Anne suddenly denies all care. Jeanette Gentele gives the film the highest score in SvD and writes “I’ve never seen death portrayed this masterly in a film, so expected, yet so surprising – and so lonesome”.
